STEAMtalks : Sharing Session Biomass Implementation As Sustainable Renewable Energy Sources For Power Plant in China & Indonesia

The second day of STEAMtalks #3 carried the theme "Sharing Session Biomass Implementation As Sustainable Renewable Energy Sources For Power Plant in China & Indonesia", held on Friday, February 7, 2025, at the ITB Ganesha Campus, specifically in the Ruang Rapat Auditorium DPITM, Gedung CRIMSE (Ex. PAU), Lt. 8. This important session was a result of collaboration between ITB and PLTU Indonesia Power, bringing together academic, industrial, and technological perspectives to discuss sustainable biomass utilization as an alternative energy source in coal-fired power plants.

This insightful sharing session featured leading experts from both Indonesia and China, such as Prof. Hairui Yang (Tsinghua University), Prof. Ir. Ari Darmawan Pasek, Ph.D. (Head of Center for New and Renewable Energy Research, ITB), Mochamad Soleh (General Manager PT PLN – Electricity Research and Development Center), I Wayan Arimbawa Yoga Sedana (Senior Manager of PLTU Adipala – PT PLN Indonesia Power), Ardi Nugroho (Vice President of Technology Development – PT PLN Nusantara Power), Wan Ping (President Director – PT Datong Jaya Indonesia), and Bayu Aji Prakoso, S.Si, MBA (Director of Technology – PT Datong Jaya Indonesia). The discussion was moderated by Muhammad Haryiadi Setiawan, Director of PT LAPI ITB.

PT Datong Jaya Indonesia demonstrated strong commitment through technology transfer and strategic collaboration. Their representatives, Wan Ping and Bayu Aji Prakoso, offered a deep dive into China’s successful biomass power plant applications and explored how similar approaches can be localized in Indonesia. Their participation not only highlighted the importance of innovation but also addressed real-world challenges such as fuel logistics, boiler compatibility, and policy alignment, making the session not just visionary but also technically actionable for stakeholders aiming to accelerate Indonesia's energy transition.
